Life is funny.

All too often we look at goals with the mindset that we will “never” get there. Things can seem out of reach, WAY off in the distance, and this can be extremely discouraging. I would like to offer another point of view, however. Repeat this out loud: “A little adds up.” Now say it again.

Do it, I don’t care how many people are looking at you sideways at Starbuck’s right now ;-).

A little bit REALLY does add up. The old adage “Rome wasn’t built in a day” rings true here; whether you are staring up a mountainside from the bottom, you need to lose 50 pounds, you just started your own business, or you want to get better at doing chinups, we can ALL relate to the anxious feeling of fearing that we will NEVER reach our ultimate goals. However, there is hope, and it truly does come from the phrase “a little adds up”.

Say you want to add size to your glutes.

What if I told you that today I want you to do 10 Hip Thrusts with a load that is somewhat challenging? Then tomorrow, 11. Then 12 the next day, and 13, and so on, and so forth. I would have you do this for 90 days, so that in time, you are doing 100 hip thrusts.

You could break up the higher rep days into multiple sessions, it doesn’t matter, the point is to hit our volume target for that day. 10 reps? “I can do that,” you are probably saying to yourself. 11? “Sure, no problem”. So why is it that so many of us look past those days of 10, 14, or 23 reps, and get scared, intimidated, and discouraged by the pending doom of doing 100 reps?

WHO CARES if you can’t, or don’t want to get the 100 reps right now. WORK AT IT. Get better. Have a process, and a reasonable timeline to hit your goal. If we can learn to be PRESENT, and keep chipping away, eventually, we can absolutely hit our goals, but unfortunately, we live in a society where “I want it all, and I want it NOW!”

Learn to look at the process, and not the product, and you will find yourself immersed in a world of success.

A little bit adds up. In business, in the gym, and in LIFE. The best investment you can make is in the bank of YOU, so start saving those pennies, they will be dollars before you know it!
